Fluid
Mechanics is a consulting firm that specializes in competitive aquatics
and has been in business since 1987. We operate
from a home based office and rent facilities throughout the east
coast… from Maine to Virginia. |

Employees |

Our educational employees are called Certified Consultants and Certified Instructors.
Our consultants
provide a wide variety of services such as educational clinics and
camps for competitive swimmers and coaches.
Our instructors
offer learn-to-swim programs to beginning and developmental swimmers
of all ages. |

Successful Candidates |
|
|
|
We customarily have
about 60 applicants that apply and take between 2 and 4 into our
training program.
We look for individuals:

who have a professional
demeanor
-
are able to competently
teach our specific teaching method called “Cataloging”
-
can build a strong
report with swimmers of all ages
Each candidate must
hold current certifications in CPR, First Aid, and Lifeguarding at
the time of hire (not required for application) and continuously
maintain them while employed with us.
All
employees must provide their own transportation, have access to the
internet and be able to independently keep their own schedule.
Fluid Mechanics posts our employees schedules on a website that we
develop them. It is the responsibility of each employee to
download their schedule and fulfill their assignments.

Training |
|
|
We customarily offer
candidate training in the spring and fall of each year. To view
our upcoming training session application deadline and start date
click here. Training customarily
runs on 1 weeknight and 1 weekend day per week. The total
training program for a Certified Consultant consists of approximately
40-60 hours and for a Certified Instructor consists of
approximately 14 hours including a curriculum of:
- Pre-education
- Educational and
athletic development courses
- Technical expertise
instruction
- Brief apprenticeship
In lieu of payment for
this training, candidates may choose to offer an availability
commitment.

Consultants are required
to offer a minimum of 9 hours of availability per week for a period
of 24 months. |
Instructors are required
to offer a minimum of 9 hours of availability per week for a period
of 12 months. |

Employee Scheduling |
|
|
|
Our scheduling department
works with each employee to develop a schedule that works to combine
facility, client and consultant/instructor availability. |
|
Pay |
|
|
Pay ranges between $20 and
$40 an hour depending on the service that is being provided at the
time.
For example:
- Working with 1-3
swimmers the rate paid is $20/hr.
- Working with 4-6
swimmers the rate paid is $30/hr.
- Working with 7-9
swimmers the rate paid is $40/hr.
- In addition to
hourly pay there is a, one time per day, travel stipend for the
farthest facility traveled to (usually ranging between $6 and $12
per day).
